How to get license to use MiniOCTAL

Before you apply

We offer two platforms — OCTAL (a comprehensive 11-task battery for tablets and computers) and MiniOCTAL (a quick 5-task assessment for smartphones, available in 23 languages). An OCTAL license is not a software download — it is a research collaboration that includes setup, support, data analysis, and access to normative datasets.

Please read our About page to understand the platforms, how we work, and which version is right for your study before contacting us or submitting a license application.

Academic use

We offer MiniOCTAL for non-commercial academic research at no cost. Using OCTAL is essentially a research collaboration — we help with task selection, advise on hypotheses around cognitive performance, provide setup and ongoing support, and handle data analysis. This is not a product to download. We typically require a Data Transfer Agreement (DTA) between institutions before data collection begins. Please read more about how we work.

The package includes:

  • Free access to MiniOCTAL — a bespoke link for your study, hosted free of charge.
  • Automated data analysis — streamlined processing of your research data.
  • Normative dataset — anonymised data from healthy participants for comparison.

Commercial use

Commercial licensing for MiniOCTAL is currently being processed through Oxford University Innovation. We may be able to offer a fast-track process in certain cases.
